Google NotebookLM

Research notes that stay tied to your sources

Google NotebookLM is a productivity app for turning your own reference material into a searchable, conversational workspace. It suits students, researchers, writers, and anyone working through a large set of documents who wants answers that remain connected to the material they supplied.

Ask questions about the material you provide

You can bring together sources such as PDFs, websites, YouTube links, and text documents, then ask questions about them in one place. NotebookLM generates summaries and responses from those sources rather than treating the whole web as its answer base. Inline citations help you check where a point came from, which makes the app more useful for reviewing research, preparing reports, or finding details in long documents.

Read, listen, and guide the discussion

The app also offers audio overviews that turn source material into a podcast-style conversation between AI hosts. This gives you another way to review notes while doing something else, and you can steer the discussion toward subjects that matter to you. The result is less like a general chatbot and more like a study or research companion built around a selected collection of sources.

What the numbers suggest

Google NotebookLM is published by Google LLC and sits in the Productivity category. It has a rating of 4.82 from 132,099 reviews, with 10,000,000+ installs. Those figures point to broad use, while the app’s source-focused design gives it a more specific role than a general note-taking tool.
