Google Meet

Video calls for work and everyday conversations

Google Meet is a video calling and online meeting app for people who need a dependable way to speak face to face over the internet. It suits family and friends catching up, remote teams holding meetings, classes, interviews, and groups that need to share a conversation without being in the same place. The app is developed by Google LLC and belongs to the Communication category.

Tools that help people stay involved

Meet includes features designed to make calls easier to follow in less-than-perfect conditions. Automatic light adjustment can improve how participants appear on camera, while noise cancellation helps reduce unwanted background sound. Live captions can turn spoken words into on-screen text, which may be useful for accessibility or when audio is difficult to hear. Captions are not available in every language.

More ways to express yourself

For less formal calls, users can add effects, filters, reactions, and virtual backgrounds. The app also supports features aimed at more structured meetings. Depending on the account and plan, these may include meeting recording, AI-assisted note-taking, and speech translation. Availability varies, and translation and captions are limited by language support. Some features may also depend on the device being used.

Popularity and practical fit

With a 4.44/5 rating from more than 11.7 million reviews and 10 billion-plus installs, Google Meet is a familiar option for users already working with Google services. Its broad feature set makes it suitable for both casual calls and organised meetings, though access to certain advanced tools depends on whether the relevant premium plan is available.
